How to Get Rid of Fleas on Dogs, Cats and in the Home: Carpets, Furniture - Flea Control Treatment

Fleas multiply fast. So your best defense is preventing flea infestation. Get rid of fleas before they become a problem. Pet Flea pills take care of the flea eggs on your pet but you still have to get rid of the fleas that are already on your dog, cat or in your carpet.

Use a flea killer for dogs or cats which ever pet you own. The best flea treatments for dogs or cats are Frontline Flea, Frontline Plus and Advantage Flea Killer. These flea killers get rid of fleas your pet harbors.

The next step is to attack the fleas living in your carpet and fleas in home. Use a good flea spray such as Adams Flea Spray. You may have to use a flea bomb if the flea spray doesn't work. If you do you will have to leave the house for a while. You can find a good flea bomb in our selection of flea products.

After using a flea product, it is important to vacuum the day after flea treatment or as recommended on flea product package. Continue to vacuum everyday for a few weeks. This will get rid of flea eggs and fleas that will continue to hatch thus preventing reinfestation.

Buy flea medications like frontline plus, Advantage Flea control, Program flea medication, K-9 Advantix and more.

Flea and tick season is here again. My dogs aren’t infested yet. I am going to treat them with Frontline plus like I do every year. I generally don't use the flea medicine in the winter cause I don't see the fleas on my dogs. however, this is not a good idea. Cause when you see a flea you are infested. Its best to treat fleas and ticks before you see them.

Fleas can spread disease and cause health problems. They bite, then suck blood which causes itching and irritation. They can cause flea allergy dermatitis or FAD. This is a very common allergic skin disease in both dogs and cats. Fleas can infect your cat or dog with tapeworms. Advantage Flea killer kills fleas within 12 hours of use and keeps fleas off all month long. Any new fleas that may jump on your pet is killed within 2 hours. fleas stop biting in 3-5 minutes and fleas start dying within an hour of application. It also kills the flea larvae. Like frontline, you apply advantage flea medication to the back of the pet’s neck next to the skin once a month.

I put the monthly dose of frontline on both my dogs the other day. You have to empty the vial on the neck next to the skin near the collar. My dogs will sit still for this but you can tell in their eyes they feel anxious. As soon as I turn them loose, both dogs will run and rub their necks and body against the carpet. It must itch. Its only a few minutes they do this. Then they will settle down. Frontline is the best flea medication I have used. I wont use anything else. Since I started using Frontline, I have not seen a flea in my house. I have visited my daughter who had several cats and didn’t use the flea medication. I couldn’t sit on her couch cause the fleas would jump on me and bite me. Its terrible to visit someone who has fleas all over their home.

I heard somewhere a long time ago that if you give your dog one tablet of brewers yeast once a day it will repel fleas - a natural flea repellant. The reasoning was the odor that the dog gave off after eating the yeast repelled the fleas. I tried it along time ago on one of my dogs, this was before frontline was available and it didn’t work.

I used to use seven dust on my dogs, in the yard and in the house to kill fleas. I was told by some well meaning people that it worked and was not dangerous. But this stuff is insecticide and is not meant to be used in this way.  So, I now use Frontline for fleas. Its more effective cause it keeps the fleas off the dog and therefore out of your house.

When I first got my cat she was covered in fleas. It wasn’t long until the rug was full of fleas too. You could walk on the rugs in white socks and see the fleas on the socks! I had to use a flea bomb to kill the fleas in the carpet. Then vacuum everyday for a couple of weeks. It was harder to kill the fleas on the cat because once she found out you were going to spray her or dip her, she’d run. Finally I had to put on gloves and long sleeves with a thick fabric and grab her. That was no fun at all for me or my cat. But, I got rid of the fleas. I tried a flea collar but have never found them to be effective.

They make frontline plus for cats too. It kills fleas, flea eggs and ticks. Frontline Plus is fast acting. Kills fleas including those that my transmit Lyme disease. Its waterproof too. You cannot use Frontline Plus for dogs on cats. Be sure to use the right type because cats clean themselves with their tongues.

if you have an outdoor pet, dog or cat, put some cedar shavings in its house. Fleas dont like it. The Cedar shavings will help repel fleas while keeping the animal warm. Its better than old blankets, the blankets will harbor fleas and get wet too. Put a good thick layer in the bedding so the animal can bury itself in the shavings to keep warm. If it gets real cold where you live you really should bring the animal inside cause they get frostbite too. You can get the cedar shavings at any pet store.

This site has more than just flea medication and advise for getting rid of fleas. There is information on birds, cats, ferrets and fish. I have owned all of these pets at one time or another. I raised cockatiels. I had a parrot and a few parakeets too. I've had many dogs over the years; mostly mutts. Check out the Pet Blog to read about my pets.
